April 2019 Fellowships Roundup | IPT

April saw a range of visits including a cross-party group visit, a visit by one of the Parliamentary Officials enrolled on our fellowship scheme, and even saw one parliamentarian complete their fellowship. As always, each visit is part of a wider educational programme built specifically for participating parliamentarians. This month they were concentrating on topics such as skills, culture and manufcturing.

Co-operative Group in the Community

Susan Elan Jones MP visited the Co-operative Group in her Clwyd South constituency to see some of the work that the retailer is doing in her local community. This was the final visit of Susan’s fellowship where she has been concentrating on learning how organisations use corporate and social responsibility to support social and charitable causes.

During the visit to Co-op, Susan met with community groups who have been helped by Co-op’s member scheme. This scheme allows members to receive a five percent reward when buying own brand items, with a further 1 percent going towards local causes; allowing community groups to undertake important projects they couldn’t without this money.

Susan Elan Jones sits on the select committee for Welsh Affairs and is the chair of the Charities and Volunteering APPG. This visit, in addition her previous fellowship visits, has bolstered her knowledge and supported her work in these roles.

Inspiring Young People into Media

Eleanor Smith, MP for Wolverhampton South West, visited ITV in Leeds as part of her IPT Fellowship where she is learning about the ways that young people can be encouraged into building careers in technology, digital and media.
