The 2018 European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) shows the UK as being one of the top EU Innovation Leaders for the second year in a row. Performing well above the EU average, the UK’s commitment to science and innovation has seen innovation consistently improve. However, a lack of R&D investment has been highlighted as a barrier to the UK’s innovation potential across all industries, with 2018 public and private co-funding of R&D falling behind the EU average.
According to findings in the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s 2018 UK Innovation Survey the production and construction industries were found to be more innovative than the distribution and services industries. As new and emerging smart technology is integrated into business and our daily lives, how can this technology benefit a strong, competitive economy and enhance sustainability?
