In recent years there has been a significant shift among consumer’s conscious consumption with 43% saying they would consider alternatives if the offer was more sustainable. The United Kingdom has over 100,000 social enterprises, contributing £60 billion to the economy and employing nearly 2 million people. Meanwhile the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 called for all public sector commissioning to factor in economic, social and environmental well-being in connection with public service contracts.  As the UK faces challenges to wellbeing and communities, how can businesses provide value for money and wider benefits to society?

This dinner discussion will:

  • Discuss how businesses can add value to local communities and organisations
  • Consider how to increase participation of under-represented groups in the workforce, including ex-offenders and former service personnel
  • Explore how to create social value through procurement, including through supply chain networks
  • Discuss the importance of embedding social value in government contracts
