Nick joined the IPT in July 2011 having previously been in the Army for 26 years and latterly serving in the Ministry of Defence on a team constructing a 'New Employment Model' for the Armed Forces. In an extensive career with the Army he held a variety of specialist and management appointments largely within the Educational and Training Services Branch and served in a variety of operational and non-operational roles including service in: Germany; Hong Kong; the Falkland Islands; Korea; Bosnia; Kosovo and Iraq. Nick retains his outside interest in the educational/skills environment and is a member of the Apprentice Ambassadors Network, a UK Worldskills Champion and a national judge for UK Skills. In his spare time, Nick is a keen gardener and enjoys spending time with his wife Sue and their new Labrador puppy Lucy.

Angela joined the Industry and Parliament Trust in July 2015, bringing extensive cross-sector experience in human resources, finance, and office management, gained within corporate, SME, and start-up environments. In her role, Angela has overall responsibility for the Trust’s operational and administrative functions, including human resources, charity and company governance, and strategic support to the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. She plays a key role in ensuring the organisation’s internal systems and governance frameworks operate effectively and in alignment with the Trust’s strategic objectives. Angela holds an MSc in Voluntary Sector Management from Bayes Business School, City, University of London, and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). She is a strong advocate for positive organisational culture and the promotion of good mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. Outside of work, Angela enjoys practising yoga, visiting the theatre and cinema, and exploring London’s cultural scene.

Niruba joined the IPT in 2015 as Finance Manager and is responsible for the daily accounting activities of the organisation. Niruba studied CIMA and has 25 years of experience in all functions of finance with private sector companies. Her most recent academic achievement is an MSc in Charity Finance. Niruba enjoys spending time cooking Asian cuisine, cake making and decorating, stitching cross stitch designs and travelling.

Rebecca joined the team in May 2022 having previously worked in the office of a Member of Parliament. Prior to that, Rebecca studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Birmingham. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and eating good food.

Ben joined the team as the IPT’s Parliamentary Affairs Officer in September 2022. He holds a degree in Political Economy from King’s College London. Ben has a keen interest in music and plays the drums. Sport is another interest of his, he is a keen cyclist, plays golf and occasionally tennis. Being from the Black Country, Ben enjoys Real Ale and going to pubs.

Grace joined the IPT in September 2024 as a Parliamentary Affairs Officer. Prior to that she studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Exeter, as part of a four-year course including a placement year in Amsterdam. In her spare time, she enjoys running, going to the pub, and hanging out with friends.

Orla joined the IPT in November 2025 following the completion of an MA in Policies and Governance in Europe at King's College London, which included a year of study in Rome. During her postgraduate studies she gained communications, policy and events experience through internships with the Italian charity Magic Amor and Amazon's UK Public Policy team. Orla is passionate about foreign languages and cultures- she speaks Italian and French and is currently learning Swahili.

Bella joined the IPT in September 2025 as an Events Officer after completing an internship at the IPT in 2023. She has now graduated with a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bath. In her spare time Bella enjoys baking, reading a good book or starting a new knitting project!

Alfie joined the team as the Parliamentary Training Coordinator in October 2025, after graduating from the University of Sheffield. He studied International Relations and Politics, and spent another year studying in Austin, Texas. Outside of work, he loves rugby, playing the saxophone, and drinking an obscene amount of coffee.

Rosa recently joined the team as the IPT's Events and Training Assistant. She is currently studying Social Policy at the University of Bath and has just completed her second year. In her spare time, Rosa enjoys karate, swimming and playing the flute.

Paul, who delivers the IPT's training sessions, was a civil servant in the UK Government from 1986-2012. For 20 years of that time he worked as a senior lecturer in Policy and Government at the National School of Government (NSG). He now works independently, providing consultancy and training on the parliamentary process and the wider framework of government in the UK. At the NSG Paul designed and ran a range of training courses on various aspects of the UK system of government. A particular focus of his training was to provide new fast stream entrants to the Civil Service a thorough understanding of their new working environment. Paul has a particular interest in constitutional and parliamentary matters. As well as running training programmes in the UK for organisations both inside and outside of government, he has also undertaken many training assignments across the world for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department for International Development and the Government of Bermuda.

Following a varied career as an MP and university lecturer, Huw became an Independent Trainer in 2005 and specialises in courses on Understanding Parliament, Government, Legislation, Devolution and Influencing Policy. He was first elected to Parliament as Labour MP for Monmouth following a by-election in May 1991, he was defeated in the 1992 General Election and returned to the University of Brighton as Senior Lecturer in Social Policy. After being re-elected as MP for Monmouth in 1997 and 2001, Huw was re-appointed to the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and served on the Modernisation of the House Committee. Huw has extensive experience of campaigning and representing organisations in the private and voluntary sectors and was Vice Chair of the All Party Groups on Learning Disabilities and Carers. He now works with a range of training providers including the IPT, Crown Agents, Dods, ModernGov and Eliesha training business representatives, elected politicians and civil servants on democratic governance.

Philippa Helme was a Clerk in the United Kingdom House of Commons from 1983 to 2019.  From 2014 to 2019 she was Principal Clerk of the Table Office, with responsibility for overseeing proceedings in the Chamber, and was previously Deputy Head of the Committee Office. From 2008 to 2010 she was Head of the Office of the Chief Executive and led the delivery of post-Election services and induction of MPs in 2010. She also has experience as the clerk of a number of select committees, in the Public Bill Office, and as Private Secretary to the Deputy Speaker. From 2002 to 2005 she worked, on secondment to the Government, as Parliamentary Adviser at the Cabinet Office. Since retiring, Philippa has supported parliamentary strengthening work by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (developing online training material for parliamentary staff and revising the Standing Orders for the Parliament of Belize) and for the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (working in support of the Parliaments in Sir Lanka, Maldives and Bangsamoro). She also acts as an independent panellist for public appointments and as a member of the Independent Monitoring Board for HM Prison Send.

Peter Aldous is a Chartered Surveyor, who from 2010 to 2024 was the MP for Waveney in Suffolk, which was the UK’s most easterly constituency. Whilst in Parliament, much of his work focused on regeneration and promoting social mobility and a smooth transition to a low carbon economy. He has a comprehensive understanding and experience of navigating the legislative process, through active engagement in the various stages of Parliamentary bills, was a member of the Environmental Audit Committee from 2010 to 2017 and chaired and co-chaired a variety of All Party Parliamentary Groups, including those on offshore oil and gas, further education and lifelong learning, housing and social mobility, housing and care for older people, and the East of England. He now runs his own consultancy business, which has a focus on the environment, urban and rural regeneration, further education and skills and the energy sector.

Lucy was born in July 2022 and resides in Camberley, Surrey. Her favourite pastimes are: eating anything (especially doormats); sitting on your lap; watching golf and basketball. Her present learning and development targets are: learning to roll over, gaining her 10 metres swimming proficiency certificate and chasing squirrels.
