This two-day workshop based in the Houses of Parliament, is for those with little knowledge of government in the UK and parliamentary processes.
With parliamentarians as speakers, this workshop will provide a rare insight into who does what in Parliament, how the legislative agenda is formed and the impact this has on their business. There will be time for interactive discussion with speakers and other delegates on the course.
Sample Programme
Day 1
The workshop begins with a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, including visits to both the Commons and Lords and a short introduction to Parliament. This is followed by an insight into the life of an MP, the role of Government and its Minister and key political and legislative issues. Also included is a workshop session where a specific topic will be discussed with a parliamentarian.
Day 2
Following a discussion on the parliamentary processes, there will be sessions on the roles of the Civil Service, Select Committees and the House of Lords, as well as the relationship between Westminster, Whitehall and the EU. The course ends with a panel session whereby delegates can ask questions arising from the course to a panel of MPs.
