Understanding Parliament
Increasing Your Voice in Parliament
Parliament is the home of legislation. Does your business understand parliamentary procedure, and are you equipped to engage with the legislative process?
Make your business’s voice heard by learning how to engage with Parliament through the IPT’s unique training programme.
How do I Engage with Parliament?
Based in the parliamentary estate, or on-site at your company, our bespoke training seminars offer an intimate understanding of the key legislative processes and demonstrate the most effective ways for businesses to engage with Parliament.
Since 1977 the IPT has delivered parliamentary training to a wide range of organisations covering diverse areas of interest, from FTSE 100 companies to SMEs.
What the Seminars Cover
Understanding Parliament is usually structured as three seminars, which can be attended individually, or as a full-day programme including lunch. Each seminar is tailored to provide delegates with a meaningful understanding of critical parliamentary procedures.
There is a lot of flexibility with this course and the IPT is happy to tailor content to fit with the interests of delegates. If your organisation has more than 10 delegates interested in parliamentary training, we recommend the Company Seminar format.
Session One - 8:30 to 10:30
The parliamentary system - start the day with a guided tour of the parliamentary complex and an overview of parliamentary procedure. This is followed by a seminar exploring the most appropriate routes to engage with Government.
Session Two - 11:00 to 12:30
Legislation - find out how legislation is drafted and influenced, and look at the most effective times for engagement.
Lunch in the House of Commons - 12:30 to 13:30
Session Three - 14:00 to 15:30
Select Committees - see first hand how the committee scrutinises the executive and what you can do to engage in the process.
