Understanding the Principles of Marketing

Learn Principles which shape voter behaviour in a modern political economy, develop political messaging and drive the success of consumer loyalty.

The Industry and Parliament Trust believes it is vital for parliamentarians to understand:

  • what marketing is
  • its role in customer service
  • how best practice marketing can help improve the performance of UK industry
  • how marketing impacts on voter behaviour

At present there are no opportunities to study the discipline and application of marketing in an objective and comprehensive way.

We are offering six morning sessions of 2 hours each from 09.00 - 11.00 am commencing on 22 October 2008 with completion on 18 February 2009, as follows:-

  • 22 Oct 2008 - Session 1 - Introduction to Marketing
  • 12 Nov 2008 - Session 2 - Marketing and the Business Environment
  • 21 Jan 2009 - Session 3 - Marketing in Action: Marketing Mix
  • 28 Jan 2009 - Session 4 - How Marketing Contributes to the UK Economy
  • 04 Feb 2009 - Session 5 - Legislation and Legislators
  • 18 Feb 2009 - Session 6 - Marketing and Voter Behaviour

This FREE programme is offered to:

  • MPs
  • Peers
  • UK Members of the European Parliament

The format for each session will be:

  • a different expert tutor for each session
  • interactive delivery
  • practical work
  • good, but brief case studies
  • a balance of theory and practice
  • real world examples
  • take away material

These will help make each session enjoyable, interesting and inspirational.

Main Objective
is to enable parliamentarians to learn from the programme and apply that learning rather than simply learn about "what marketing is", or perhaps "what marketing people do".

We are delighted that Bradford University School of Management is delivering this new and innovative programme. Bradford is one of Britain's longest established business schools with 40 years of executive education and a solid research record and reputation. It is ranked the No. 2 Business School in the UK and No. 8 in Europe (FT 2006) and is AMBA and EQUIS accedited.

Julian Rawel, Director of Executive Education, will lead the team of five experienced marketers delivering the programme. An experienced post graduate and executive tutor specialising in marketing and strategy, Julian has taught at business schools throughout Europe. His own business credentials include the successful launch of the £42 million RoyalArmouriesMuseum in Leeds and supporting the growth of Eurocamp from a small privately owned company, including a £32,000 management buyout, to a fully listed plc with profits of £9.4m.
