Parliamentary Study Programme for Industry (PSPI)

IPT's Parliamentary Study Programme for Industry (PSPI) is an intensive practical study to demonstrate Parliament as it really is, explore its connection with Government and show that industry can have constructive relationships with both Parliament and Government.

Through a combination of talks and tours, delegates will obtain a thorough insight into how policy is developed, legislation is scrutinised and how backbench committees operate.

The Programme

The programme opens with a tour of the Palace of Westminster followed by sessions on parliamentary topics. Subjects covered include:

  • Pre-legislative Scrutiny
  • Select Committees
  • Scrutinising bills
  • The role of the Speaker
  • The role of the Whips
  • The role of the Leader of the House

The programme also includes visits to the Commons and Lords Chambers where delegates can observe proceedings in the Chamber, as well as a panel session whereby delegates can ask a panel of MPs parliamentary questions arising from the course.

The Speakers

The PSPI features more than 30 expert speakers, the majority of whom are parliamentarians, working as Ministers, backbench MPs, Peers or Senior Staff.
