European Study Programme for Industry (ESPI)

Below is a summary of the programme.

Eurostar from St Pancras to Brussels

DAY ONE: UKREP

Introduction to the programme and an overview of the European Institutions to prepare delegates for the remainder of the course.

DAY TWO: THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION

The first step in the legislative process - An introduction to the Commission as an institution and a partner; the role of Commissioners and their Cabinet; how the Commission conducts external relations and a visit to a Directorate-General.

DAY THREE: THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

The second step in the legislative process - An introduction to the European Parliament, political groups and their responsibilities; the powers, structure and methods of European Parliament committees; the role of MEPs; how to lobby effectively in Brussels and the impact of the proposed Lisbon Treaty.

DAY FOUR: THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION & THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER

The final step in the legislative process - An introduction to The Council of the European Union. The scrutiny and implementation of European legislation in the EU.

This four-day programme, the 18th ESPI, includes Eurostar travel to and from Brussels, accommodation, lunches and two evening meals, as well as course reading material.
