A company Fellowship attaches a parliamentarian to one or more participating companies for 18 days over 12-18 months. It provides the parliamentarian with a unique understanding of the principles underlying the running of a major organisation. This is by far the most popular of the programmes that the Industry and Parliament Trust runs and many hundreds of parliamentarians have already taken the opportunity to become a Fellow of the IPT by completing a company Fellowship.
A parliamentarian gains practical experience of the global, economic, environmental, personnel and financial issues facing the host company through exploring its relationship with investing institutions, suppliers and customers. A Fellowship programme is tailored to take account of a parliamentarians' past experience, special interests and specific objectives. Those undertaking Fellowships are given the opportunity to gain direct hands-on experience at all levels of the company, from the shop floor through to the boardroom.
Most Company Fellowships also include one or two days with one or more small businesses working in the same field as the host company or companies.
Company Fellowships can be undertaken with a number of companies in a whole range of different sectors including: banking and financial services, broadcasting and media, construction, consulting, defence and aerospace, education, food and drink, finance, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, retailing, technology and telecommunications and travel and leisure.
Parliamentarians interested in participating in a company Fellowship should either fill in and return an application form or, alternatively, contact Nick Lee, IPT Fellowship Co-ordinator on 020 7839 9400 or at NickLee@ipt.org.uk.
