History of the IPT

The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) was established in 1977 by the Chief Executives of 10 major British companies to develop an understanding by management about Parliament through ‘dialogues’ between parliamentarians and companies.

The IPT was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in April 1977 and became a registered charity in 1983. Its charitable objects are:

"To promote mutual understanding between Parliament and the worlds of business, industry and commerce for public benefit"

The IPT seeks to achieve its objectives by encouraging dialogue between legislators and entrepreneurs from businesses in the UK.
